Musical Theatre in Penryn, Newquay and Truro
with Cornwall Theatre School
Nothing beats the sheer, exhilarating buzz of performing on stage, so Principal Stephanie Johnson runs lots of shows each year for her students. She draws on her own extensive experience as a seasoned West End actress, inspiring the children with her fabulous voice and in-the-know stage tips.
Cornwall Theatre School specialises in Musical Theatre and runs two types of classes: Show Time and Trinity Exam classes.
Show Time: Do you live and breathe performing? Then join this one-hour, high energy, fun performance class! CTS specialises in working towards a show with excerpts from favourite musicals. Classes involve improvisation, acting, singing and dancing. Join now and take part in this summer’s musical ‘Bugsy Malone’ at The Lane Theatre, Newquay and The Regal Theatre, Redruth; and later in the year at The Hall for Cornwall. Classes are divided into three age groups – 4 to 8, 9 to 11 and 12 to 17 year olds.
The Christmas show ‘Freezing’ was performed to packed houses. They filled the stage with movement and had me giggling with their wonderful facial expressions and timing. The performances were fab. The children had a chance to shine and I really felt the performance came from them. They learn a lot from working together across the different age ranges too; there is a strong ethos of helping each other backstage.
The Trinity Exam classes for ages 5 to 17 are for students who wish to hone their performance skills: emphasis is placed on solid technique as well as performance. CTS has a 100% pass rate and the students received the highest grade of Highly Commended across the board in 2013 and 2014. They also perform in local festivals and events.
